Motaza Mohamed Khater
Professor
Cairo University
Egypt
Motaza Mohamed Khater(Biography)
Professor Dr. Motaza Khater After graduation, in June 1958, I joined the team implementing the "five years Industrialization Plan of Egypt, I joined the Chemical Industry in Egypt" from October 1958 till September 1959. It was a very important period in my career; I was subjected to the real application of the chemical knowledge that we had studied at the University. During that year, I learned many new things, met many important persons from the industry, and came in contact with a few foreign experts submitting offers for new factories or renewing existing ones. In 1959, I moved to the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science to work in the research field. I got my master degree in Analytical Chemistry in 1963 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. H. Khalifa, in Analytical Chemistry and my Ph.D degree under Prof. Dr. H. Khalifa and Prof. Dr. E.M. Khairy in Coordination compounds structure and applications, 1968. I was granted 2 post doctoral scholarships; the first was in Vienna University, the second was in Birmingham University 1977. Professor Motaza has published more than 65 publications, supervised more than 60 MScs and PhDs thesis and edited over 19 volumes of the Egyptian Journal of Analytical Chemistry; she also reviewed many scientific publications and refereed several dissertations and scientific publications and she was a member of many international symposia. She was chosen as a member of the promotion committee for professors and associate professors in non organic chemistry for several years. 1978-1983 I was appointed as the Egyptian Cultural Counselor at the Egyptian Embassy in Austria, where I had very good contacts with Austrian Professors who helped in increasing scientific exchange between the two countries. I joined the Working Party of Analytical Chemistry (WPAC) Federation of European Chemical Societies (FECS) as an observer representing Egypt 1979; it was a good opportunity to meet Eminent Professors in Analytical Chemistry. Having realized that many people do not understand Chemistry's role in all aspects of life and with the support and help of my Professors and Colleagues in Egypt, we arranged the First International Symposium on New Trends in Chemistry, the Role of Analytical Chemistry in National Development, in January 1984. It was very successful and its first recommendation was to establish the Egyptian Society of Analytical Chemistry (ESAC) aiming to increase the awareness about the importance of Analytical Chemistry among society. The Egyptian Journal of Analytical Chemistry was issued (EJAC), it was always actively participating in all its activity. The Society had the observer membership in WPAC, ESAC joined the Arab Union Of Chemists in 1994 and actively supported it. In 2006 I attended the Ethiopian Society of Chemistry Conference celebrating the Millennium and shared in founding FASC, was elected as its Vice President. We joined nearly all activities and arranged the second FASC Conference together with our Eighth Symposium 2009. Two Workshops on Education of Chemistry and Environmental Protection were held in Cooperation with RSC, a third one on Safety of Chemical Laboratories was also held supported by ACS. My role was to help in bringing Scientists from different parts of the World together with decision makers to solve society problems in Egypt, Arab and African Countries and to encourage young Scientists to get involved in more multilateral projects as I'm sure that they can solve many problems. The Scientific Memberships, 2006 - 2012 Vice President, Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC), 1984 - 2017 Chair, Egyptian Society of Analytical Chemistry, then honorary president, 1979- 1997 Observer Member, WPAC in FECS, 1958 – present Member, Egyptian Chemical Society, 1990- present Chief Editor, Egyptian Journal of Anal. Chemistry and 1995- present Member, Arab Union of Chemistry. Awards and Honors, 2016 Chosen by RSC as one of 175 faces of Chemistry, 2010 Ideal Mother Recognition Certificate, Faculty of Science, Cairo University, Egypt, 1990 Recognition Certificate, from Austrian Society of Analytical Chemistry Vienna, Austria, 1983 decoration from the Austrian Government after finishing the post as Cultural Counselor, Egyptian Embassy Austria. I attended more than 40 National and International Conferences and Symposia in the field of Analytical Chemistry. What I enjoy most is being able to share many activities in Egypt and internationally aiming for better life for all humans.
